MARCH 2025
Sporting Families,
I am delighted to step into the role as Technical Director with a club whose mission, vision, and values align so closely with mine. After seeing the enthusiasm and passion of both the President of the club and the DOPD I knew instantly that I wanted to join them on this journey.
Since moving out of town to join Racing Louisville in the NWSL I have continued to stay connected with the soccer community in Norman & OKC. Sporting Oklahoma’s vision is one that will challenge and change the landscape of youth
soccer in Oklahoma doing so in a positive and trustful manner. The exciting part of all of this is that you get to be a part of the journey with us!
As we take you on this journey with us, we hope that these newsletters will keep you updated on the good work that is going on and we encourage you to continue to share the good with us! As a club we are committed to upholding and living out our values and doing things “The Sporting Way”. I am excited to begin working straight away and continue to build on the foundation that has already been set.
See you all soon,
Mitch Sowerby

Alumni Spotlight – Dylan Liessner
Dylan’s Journey to college soccer has been remarkable from starting when the club founded in 2020 to developing to a key player and Captain on our 06 Boys Team.
It is no Suprise that Dylan worked his way to becoming an NCAA Division 2 soccer player with Oklahoma Christian University. He embodies everything that our club is about, and he is a great role model for the younger players in our system.
"Playing at sporting helped me regain my confidence and my love for the sport all over again allowing me to perform at high levels and being able to play at a NCAA level after club and everyone at Sporting was family to me. Living the college life is different but it’s nothing that you can’t do but I love the community and the team at OC, and I plan to stay for all four years, and I’m proud that I am getting to represent Sporting at the college level.”
We are proud of you Dylan, Go Eagles!
After coming off a great fall season finishing second in the OPL and winning both tournaments entered, SKC Classic and OEFC Winter Showcase, our 2013 girls headed to Kansas City and were the first team in our club’s history to compete in the “Sporting Development League.” Playing against our academy affiliates top teams from ECNL and GA programs, our girls had a stellar weekend picking up 6 points, being 1 point off top of the league! Please wish them luck as they head back to Kansas City in May to challenge for the League Championship!
AJ has been coaching for over ten years and just joined Sporting Oklahoma last year. He coaches the 2011 and 2012 boys and we have already seen a difference in our players. AJ played Striker, left wing and attacking mid. AJ’s favorite meal is Spaghetti Bolognese and he loves Norwich City FC. One of his most embarrassing moments was when he ran on to the field to help an injured player and tripped in the middle of the field.
If he could be any animal he would be a cheetah because they’re the fastest!
Our values are embedded in everything we do, shaping our culture both on and off the field. We believe an increased focus on our culture will lead to increased success for our players, both on and off the field. At the heart of our culture are our
S.P.O.R.T.I.N.G. Core Values and the
Five Pillars of Our Culture: Attitude & Effort, Enjoyment, Player Development, Collaboration and Accountability.
We believe enjoyment is a powerful motivator for self-development and we recognize the importance of it in establishing a lifelong interest in the sport of soccer. We are dedicated to fostering a fun, safe and professional environment.
We want to know what our players, teams and coaches are up to on and off the pitch. Share your photos at the link below and you might be featured in our next newsletter!
